The Healthcare team, under the enlightened and innovative leadership of Tracy Sell-Peters, requires an Associate to assist in its burgeoning practice. The role presents significant opportunities for training, growth and development in a unique team at the forefront of healthcare litigation which has enjoyed significant success and acts for a wide range of clients (insurers, insureds, regulators, Royal Colleges, defence organisations, PCTs and medical professionals) on the defence side, with insurers and insureds (medical professionals), being the largest contingent. We are an expanding team comprised of excellent, highly motivated legal professionals. We are unique in offering the ability to do this fascinating work in a very different, enabling environment.

The team also draws on opportunities to act for Keystone’s wider client base, while keeping its sights firmly set on servicing and continuing to win new business in this rapidly evolving, most interesting area of practice.

Working in a team environment, the role involves:

• Advising and representing healthcare professionals in healthcare regulatory proceedings, before the GMC, GDC, HCPC, NMC and other healthcare regulators;
• Advising in MHPS and private hospital disciplinary cases;
• Advising and representing healthcare professionals (and their medical indemnity insurers) -  including doctors, surgeons, nurses, dentists and allied health professionals - in respect of clinical negligence claims ;
• Providing medico-legal guidance and early pre-action assistance for members of medical indemnity insurance schemes, including in the Caribbean;
• Providing policy coverage advice to insurers in the healthcare sector.

The successful candidate will have the following attributes:

• Experience of healthcare litigation is essential (defendant clinical negligence claims and healthcare regulatory cases). This role is not suitable for you if you have only claimant experience, or if you have only defendant experience in claims work.
• Experience of insurance, insurance law and coverage would be beneficial, but is not essential
• Empathy and excellent interpersonal skills
• Strong technical ability to include a thorough grasp of principles, case law and topics
• Thoroughness and attention to detail
• Motivation and a strong work ethic
• Great team-working skills
• Confidence, resilience and tenacity
• An ability to work pro-actively and demonstrate initiative without constant direction, albeit under close supervision
