Compliance Manager

Hours: 9:00 – 17:30 (Full time or Part time/flexible working considered)

Keystone law are recruiting for a Compliance Manager to join the Central Office team based in Chancery Lane, London. Working closely with the Director responsible for Risk and Operations the Compliance Manager will be the first port of call for partner-level lawyers on matters of risk and compliance (with support from Risk Director as needed) and responsible for a range of tasks including:


  • Reviewing risk and compliance and AML procedures
  • QC checking the work of a team of AML administrators
  • Supervising conflict checking and opining on complex conflicts of interest
  • Instructing counsel where matters especially complex
  • Assisting partners-level lawyers with their duties under the SRA Code of Conduct
  • Assisting partners-level lawyers with their obligations under the Bribery Act
  • Annual review of compliance policies
  • Involvement in disaster recovery policy and procedure
  • Supervising the internal PEP and sanctions registers
  • Undertaking high risk and PEP file reviews
  • Assisting with insurance renewals
  • Reviewing record retention and ensuring appropriate documents destruction processes
  • Assisting with consultation response to changes of law
  • Designing and writing risk training courses and an involvement in delivering them
  • Staying ahead of the curve on matters of law firm compliance and AML
  • Managing suppliers of compliance technology
  • Advising on Data Protection including subject access requests
  • Weekly reporting on compliance and AML matters

Ideal applicants will be able to demonstrate:

  • Law degree or other legal/compliance training
  • At least four years’ relevant experience in legal compliance
  • Knowledge of SRA Code
  • Knowledge of AML rules
  • Knowledge of Anti Bribery rules
  • Aptitude for learning
  • Ability to deal with senior people
  • A desire to operate commercially and not simply to take a rules based approach
  • Confidence and a natural ability to build strong relationships with senior lawyers and management
  • Emotional intelligence
  • Excellent writing and communication skills
  • A sense of fun
  • Initiative and ability to improve processes
