Keystone Law is one of the most respected law firms in the UK and its fast rise is reshaping the UK legal market. It is a multiple award-winning Top 100 law firm that is continuing to make waves. In 2017 it listed on the London Alternative Investment Market, and it continues to go from strength to strength with investors and clients alike. Our lawyers are drawn from the partnerships of the top 50 law firms and some high-quality boutiques.

The firm and this practice are ranked by Chambers & Partners and Legal 500, and in November 2020 we were named Law Firm of the Year at the prestigious The Lawyer Awards, the ultimate accolade in the legal industry. In January 2021, Keystone was also crowned Firm of the Year by RollOnFriday after achieving a 94% employee satisfaction score in the publication’s annual survey. As the UK’s happiest law firm, our lawyers are some of the most satisfied in the industry.

We are looking to recruit an associate level property litigator to support the growing practice of one of the partners who has developed a strong and growing property litigation workload since joining the firm. The role presents significant opportunities for training, growth and development in a unique team which undertakes litigation at the highest levels. The work is broad and covers landlord and tenant work for major commercial office owners in the City, commercial occupiers, retailers and hotels/hospitality operators as well as RTM companies and a substantial element of Tribunal work. Development work also features strongly - principally for residential and mixed-use developers - with litigation involving the Building Safety Act 2022, the Defective Premises Act 1972, the Electronic Communications Code, rights of light, party wall matters, boundary disputes, prescriptive easements, land registration, restrictive covenants, nuisance and trespass claims. We are unique in offering the ability to do this fascinating work in a very different, supportive, family-friendly and enabling environment.

The current team of a partner, a senior associate and two paralegals provides transactional and dispute avoidance/resolution support to the wider real estate and construction team at Keystone. Property litigation work is also generated from Keystone’s broad client base.

Working in a team environment, the role involves:

  • Providing advice to avoid and manage risk relating to property aspects of development.
  • Advising on landlord and tenant matters in both a commercial and residential context.
  • Bringing and defending claims for forfeiture and possession of commercial and residential property.
  • Bringing and defending a very broad range of property-related claims at the County Court, High Court, First Tier Tribunal and Upper Tribunal (Lands Chamber).
  • Advising on the impact of the regulation of housing development post-Grenfell, including Building Safety Fund applications and New Homes Warranty claims.

This is an exciting opportunity to undertake quality and high-value work at a City law firm. For the right candidate, it offers the opportunity for development based on performance measured in more than just chargeable hours.

The successful candidate will have the following attributes:

  • Experience of - and specialism in - a broad range of both residential and commercial property litigation in a variety of forums is essential.
  • Experience of supervising and supporting the development of junior lawyers is essential.
  • Experience of construction or construction litigation would be beneficial, but is not essential.
  • Empathy and excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Strong technical ability to include a thorough grasp of principles, case law and topics.
  • Thoroughness and attention to detail.
  • Motivation and a strong work ethic.
  • Great team-working skills.
  • Confidence, resilience and tenacity.
  • An ability to work pro-actively and demonstrate initiative without constant direction, albeit under close supervision.
  • Strong organisational skills.

No distinction is made between candidates’ route to qualification.  Members of the team are both law and non-law graduates and includes those who have become Solicitors through the legal executive route.

If you feel you have the requisite skills and experience for which we are looking and would enjoy working for an expanding and forward-thinking law firm, then please get in touch today.
